The Senior Community Service Employment Program

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) offers on-the-job training positions to qualified persons. To qualify for the program a person must be at least fifty-five (55) years old and a resident of Amelia, Brunswick, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway or Prince Edward Counties.

The purpose of SCSEP is to assist and support the senior by offering a temporary stepping stone back into the workforce. Though positions with SCSEP are not meant to be permanent employment, the on-the-job training experience can help an individual close the gaps that are keeping them from getting employed.

SCSEP Offers:
· Twenty hours paid on-the-job training
· Assessments to determine your present skill level and the types of occupations for which you would like to train
· Pre and Post employment workshops
· Referrals for additional classroom training if appropriate
· Occupational training to help you acquire new or to upgrade your job skills
· Referrals to other programs to help you with other areas of your life

Secret Santas for Seniors

Secret Santa for Seniors was conceived out of the realization that many seniors who live at or below the poverty guideline were having to make choices between many of the basic necessities. While these individuals may qualify for social services such as Medicaid, housing assistance and Food Stamps, these services do not provide for many personal or household items. Thus Secret Santa attempts to provide some of these items (soap, bathroom tissue, paper towels, robes, blankets, slippers, dish washing liquid, laundry detergent, etc.), in order to relieve some of the pressure purchasing them would cause.

We realize that the wonderful and much needed gifts will not last forever but they do help...at least for a little while and what better time to help than during the Christmas Season?

This year 120 seniors received gifts from over 100 donors. We at CAWS, Inc. were grateful for every contribution and so were the seniors.

Therefore we would like to say 'Thank you' for remembering that "Seniors need loving too."
